Montenegro is a tiny little country perched between Albania in the south and Croatia in the north has a lot to offer for such a small spot. Formerly belonging to Yugoslavia it is struggling now with its independence. Montenegro is hosting the largest fjord in Europe the “Kontorfjord” a real masterpiece of nature.
The sheer cliffs are incredible and the size is really huge. Within are old historic towns with Kontor as its highlight. Along the coast are some very nice old towns like Budva, Bar an Ulcini which have nice sandy beaches as well. For me the highlight on the coast is Sveti Stefan a small islet which is now functioning as a luxury hotel. Another beautiful spot is the second largest fjord in Europe the Kontor Fjord. Sheer cliffs with old town make this place a highlight of any trip. Have a look at the photos! Interesting is the fact that this is the only country I know which has outside the European Union the Euro as its offical currency. We were desperately looking for a currency converter untill we found out when we arrived that there is no need for that. For the future this country has a lot of potential since Tourism is not yet too big compared to neighbouring Croatia.
